چکیده

Solving numerically hydrodynamical problems of incompressible fluids arises the question of handling first order derivatives (those of pressure) in a closed container and determining its boundary conditions. A way to avoid the first point is to derive a Poisson equation for pressure, although the problem of taking the right boundary conditions still remains. To remove this problem another formulation of the problem has been used consisting of projecting the master equations into the space of divergence free velocity fields, so pressure is eliminated from the equations. This technique raises the order of the differential equations and additional boundary conditions may be required. Besides, high order derivatives are sometimes troublesome, specially in cylindrical coordinates due to the singularity at the origin. For these problems a low order formulation such as the primitive one is very convenient. We researched several pressure boundary conditions for the original formulation of thermoconvective problems. In particular we study the Marangoni instability of an infinite fluid layer and we show that the numerical results with a Chebyshev collocation method are highly correspondent to the analytical ∗Present address: School of Mathematics, University of Bristol. Chebyshev Collocation for Optimal Control in a Thermoconvective Flow

In this paper a Chebyshev collocation method is used for solving numerically an optimal boundary control problem in a thermoconvective fluid flow. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the capabilities of these numerical techniques for handling this kind of problems. As the problem is treated in the primitive variable formulation additional boundary conditions for the pressure and the auxilia...

Eigenfunction Expansions for Second-Order Boundary Value Problems with Separated Boundary Conditions

In this paper, we investigate some properties of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of boundary value problems with separated boundary conditions. Also, we obtain formal series solutions for some partial differential equations associated with the second order differential equation, and study necessary and sufficient conditions for the negative and positive eigenvalues of the boundary value problem....

Numerical model for thermal convection in a cylindrical annulus heated laterally

1 Abstract In this paper we study thermoconvective instabilities appearing in a fluid which is in a cylindrical annulus heated laterally. As soon as the applied temperature gradient reaches a critical value a stationary bifurcation takes place. The problem is modelized with the original Navier Stokes equations by keeping pressure with appropriate boundary conditions. This is a low order formula...

A Collocation Method with Modified Equilibrium on Line Method for Imposition of Neumann and Robin Boundary Conditions in Acoustics (TECHNICAL NOTE)

A collocation method with the modified equilibrium on line method (ELM) forimposition of Neumann and Robin boundary conditions is presented for solving the two-dimensionalacoustical problems. In the modified ELM, the governing equations are integrated over the lines onthe Neumann (Robin) boundary instead of the Neumann (Robin) boundary condition equations. Inother words, integration domains are...

Detecting the location of the boundary layers in singular perturbation problems with general linear non-local boundary ‎conditions‎

Singular perturbation problems have been studied by many mathematicians. Since the approximate solutions of these problems are as the sum of internal solution (boundary layer area) and external ones, the formation or non-formation of boundary layers should be specified. This paper, investigates this issue for a singular perturbation problem including a first order differential equation with gen...
